Learning to be open

An update on the Appropriation post below. It looks as though Microsoft are happy with XBox Kinect hackers playing around with their latest release.

Despite condemning the modification of its products only recently, there has been a complete U-turn as it announced that nobody is going into trouble for hacking the new product. The only situation in which they will take action is when hackers are intercepting streaming to spy on users (which is fair enough).

Microsoft have even gone so far as to say that the technology was purposely left open. Regardless, the message from Microsoft is now clear; using Kinect to intercept audio and video stream - a no, no, no; using Kinect for cool, creative projects that ultimately show Microsoft in a positive light and as a co-creative brand - ah yes, yes, yes.

All this whilst iPhone continues to crack down on iPhone jailbreakers.
