Another Brick in the Wall

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while. This RSA Animated TED talk by Sir Ken Robinson captures your attention from beginning to end and in it, Robinson rightly challenges the current conveyor belt education system we’re continuing to use. Designed, conceived and structured for a different age – The Industrial Revolution – education as we know it has been modelled in its image.

Schools are consequently still organised on a factory line basis, from ringing bells and separate subjects to educating children in batches – i.e. age group.

I can’t recommend this enough and it’s something I believe needs to happen. In fact, I wrote an essay on this a while ago. I just wish I’d seen this video before I’d written it. I particularly like the idea that collaboration is the stuff of growth and “most great learning happens in groups”.

For more RSA Animated talks, pay a visit to their YouTube page (highly recommended).
